Sustainability

Along with taking care of the forest to optimize the quantity and quality of sap it produces it is also important to manage impacts and enhance the benefits to the natural environment.
  • Care is taken to maintain and enhance wildlife habitat.
  • Water quality is considered in the placement of trails and roadways.
  • Gas powered collection points are being phased out in favour of electrically operated pump houses allowing us to better manage our impact on resources.
  • A solar system on the farm provides equivalent renewable energy over the year to match the needs of the sugarhouse.
  • Electrical requirements are managed over the year to allow for the significant power requirement at harvest time.
  • During forest management activities, selective harvest methods are practised leaving healthy trees for our sugarbush.
  • Logs are also harvested for use in our own farm buildings to reduce our carbon footprint.

A well managed forest continually removes carbon from the environment while increasing oxygen supply. Our impact on the environment is forefront in both our day to day activities and our longer term projects
